Be a Doer
As I read James 1:22 this morning I was reminded that just reading and/or thinking about God's Word is not enough. God expects us to actually do what it says. God will not say 'Well read' or 'Well thought' or even 'Well felt' when we get to heaven. What we will hear if we can get it right here in this life is "Well DONE good and faithful servant."

Unthinkable!
Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms
To think that God trusts me with HIS grace! Unthinkable - knowing who I am. And yet that's what God does - that's the hope He has in us. That we can take what we have been given and hand it out to others.

Links to Great Commission Churches' "Daylights" are now available in the right sidebar area of this blog. For years the "daylights" have been a daily devotional that people use to connect with God.
A Healthy Body
What I hear Paul saying in our reading for today (1 Corinthians 12:14-26) is that each part of the body is critical and important for the body to be healthy. I so appreciate just the simplicity of comparing the church to the human body. Because in the human body the same thing is true - all parts of the body must be healthy in order for the body to be healthy and to function optimally. And so the human body and the church are the same in that way.
The question I have to ask myself is what is my role in the body of the church and how can I go about being that "body part" in a healthy way so that it contributes to the overall health of the church?
What are you getting from God's Word?

A Royal Priesthood
1 Perter 2:9b - "that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light"
If you have been "called out of the darkness" by Jesus Christ then God says that we are a "royal priesthood" on a mission. Our mission is to "declare the praises of Jesus Christ." To think that God has entrusted me with that mission - the most important mission on the planet. And when we step into that mission then God's plan will be advanced.
Let's be "on guard" today for mission opportunities to declare the praises of Jesus.

The Spirit
What came to me this morning as I read Acts 2:1-3 was simply that I (and we) would have a greater sense of God's Spirit today. That it would be unmistakable as we see God at work and we would join with Him as a "priest" that serves Him.

Beyond Myself #2: As A Priest
The Think It Through for this past weekend can be found here. Let's look for ways this coming week to live beyond ourselves and step into the role of a priest that just so happens to go to work or to school or to be a mom or a dad or whatever else you find yourself doing this week.

Wired To Serve
In our reading for today (Eph 2:10), it amazes me that the God of the entire universe invites us to do what needs doing according to His will. He is the one that prepared good works for us to do and if He has prepared good works for us to do then He has also prepared us to do those good works. The question is not - CAN I do what God has prepared for me to do - of course I can with God's help. But the real question is WILL I do what god has prepared in advance for me to do.
Thanks to everyone for Saturday night and your willingness to participate in the "spiritual circuit training" activity. I was so blessed yesterday as I read through each opportunity interest sheet that was turned in. It's evident that your hearts are to be used by God for His glory.

The Church
For me, Acts 2:42-47 is the picture of the church. A family that gathers together in unity as we let God use us to build His kingdom. It's a profound thing when you stop and ponder the dynamics for a few moments. God has actually asked us to join with Him to help build His kingdom. How crazy is that!
What should the church look like? Like it does in this scripture - this is what being the church actually looks like. AMAZING!
Let's actually be the church today!

All About Love
I was so encouraged by our scripture reading for this morning (1 Corinthians 13:1-3) because it reminds me that LOVE is the center of being a Christian. We can do all kinds of great things but if love is not our primary motivator (love for God and love for others) then it's all meaningless.
As we "do" today - let's make sure that all we do is motivated by love. How has God spoken to you today through His Word? Share it by posting a comment. I know for me that when I share what God is teaching me is makes it more real to me - it solidifies it for me because I have to think about it as I share it - either in spoken or written form. Make a point to share what God is teaching you with others today.

Prayer Points
Recently as a church, we have been putting a lot of emphasis on prayer. It is something that I feel like God wants us to "step into" as a church. I feel like it is a tremendous source of power that is largely untapped. 3 quick thoughts on prayer that I read this morning:
- Pray boldy. God wants us to approach Him with confidence! (Hebrews 4:16)
- Pray often. God desires a relationship with us. (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
- Pray in faith. He is able and willing. (Mark 11:24-26)

Commitment 101
We still have some room for Commitment 101 this Tuesday evening (Feb. 10) @ 7pm. Call 461-0725 to sign-up.
God's Glory
The phrase from today's reading (John 17:20-26) that caught my attention was: "I have given them the glory that you gave me". As believers in Christ we have been given the same glory that God gave to Jesus. That is amazing when you stop and think about it.
The question that I must now ask myself is: what will I do with that glory that I have been given? Will I keep it for myself or will I use it to bring glory to God? I hope I never get to the place where I forget to ask that simple question.
What will you do TODAY with the glory that you have been given? It's good to think about such things.

1st Wednesday Celebration
We had our first 1st Wednesday Celebration last night! Thanks to everyone who made it last night. I hope that everyone was encouraged by our time together - I know I was - I can't get the song "Resting Place" out of my head. Thanks to Ryan for leading our worship, Jim for leading our communion time, John for leading our prayer time, and to Drew for closing us in prayer.
Our theme for last night centered around "Greater Things" which comes from John 1:50:
John 1:50 (NIV)
Jesus said, "You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You shall see greater things than that."
We should be expecting greater things in our lives that come from God - both individually and in our families and in our church. I outlined 7 "greater things" that as a church we can be trusting God for in the coming year (for quick reference these are also in the right sidebar towards the bottom):
Please be praying for these "greater things" on a consistent basis and let's trust God that He will bless us in these ways. I am looking forward to serving with you over the next year as God does "greater things" in our midst.

- 24 new souls to minister to
- 12 new saved souls
- 12 baptisms
- 4 community outreach events
- 100 prayer requests
- Everyone contributing (serving the church)
- 2 new Fellowship Teams

The Body
I love the picture in 1 Corinthians 12 that the church is a body. And that in a body there are many parts that have to work together in order for the body to be healthy. Each part is crucial to the whole. And each of us as a member of the body has a responsibility and a role to play.
What part are you?
What part are you?

Well Done
Can you imagine what it will feel like to stand before God and hear the words "Well done, good and faithful servant."? But as in our reading for today, Matthew 25:14-30, those words will not be spoken to everyone, but only to those who have taken up Jesus on His invitation to "Come, follow me."
What is it that you will follow Him in today?
What does it look like for you today to be God's faithful servant?
What is it that you will follow Him in today?
- Read His Word
- Obey His Word
- Love One Another
- Love God
- Be patient
- Be quick to listen
- Slow to speak
- ...
What does it look like for you today to be God's faithful servant?
